January Exam Results

Hey guys, see I told you I'd actually post on a Sunday this time!

So skipping Monday (it's my day off so I was just doing uni work) now onto Tuesday so before my lecture me and my course mate went to Alcuin Kitchens in uni. I'd never been before and it was a cool arty home vibe and I obviously had hot chocolate.
Then on Wednesday I finally found out my January exam results, so I got 55 for world englishes which I'm annoyed at as I would have preferred a 2.1. However I can't believe it but I got a first in language acquisition which makes up for everything. I'm so happy all that revision was so worth it, just shows that hard work always (mostly) pays off!

On Friday I booked Fusion Festival tickets in the morning which I'm so excited about as Shawn Mendes is headlining on the Sunday. There's so many good acts so this year me and my friend decided to go for both days and not just one.

Then yesterday I was just chilling in my room doing my assignment and my friends from back home totally surprised me!! One of them asked for my address which I thought nothing of as I asked for hers last year to send a card so I presumed it was that. The next minute she's ringing me telling me to go outside, I felt like I was on a prank show it was unreal. Then there they both were, we had the best day even if we kept getting lost, we went to uni and got nachos and just had a nice catch up as we hadn't seen each other in ages.

Sorry for the short post but I hope you've all had a good week but if not don't worry there's always next week, excitingly by my previous story tomorrow is a new day and you never know what could happen!

Talk to ya next week,
Byeeee

Reading Week Back At Home

Hey so I know it's Monday so sorry about that but after I came back to uni I ended up going out for cocktails with my friend so I didn't have time to upload (nope I don't write it beforehand I'm not that organised)

Anyway, so last Sunday as part of cat soc we went to Sheffield's cat cafe again it was nice to be back and this time with my friend who couldn't go before.

Here's me outside the train station, I thought it was a nice view behind me:

I had the nicest hot chocolate which was decorated with a cute cat paw!
Here's one of the cats with a carrot toy we found then another with a santa hat (yep they probably hated us..)
Then we went to Pizza Express after (before we used google maps to find ask italian only to find out it wasn't even open yet..thought it looked quiet)

Here's me posing with my pasta which was so tasty, nice for a change as I always get pizza.
Moving on, I got some new posters for my room. I got this friends one for £1.50 from uni I just love it, even better than the original.
Then I ordered 3 stranger things posters from eBay and they were only £6.50! If you ever want good quality cheap posters eBay is the place to go.

So I don't know if I mentioned but somehow I managed to get a swollen foot, turns out it's because my bunion has forced me to put pressure in all the wrong places. Why did I get my mums genes, I also got her shitty eyesight (clearly have the best luck..)

So before I went to the doctors (turns out I have to see a podiatrist) I showed my mum around the quiet place at uni. It reminds me of alice and wonderland as the hedges are so big you feel tiny (doesn't take much for me to feel small though)
I thought this shot of the house through the trees was cool!
So my favourite day of the year came again.. PANCAKES DAY! Obviously not Valentines Day who gives a crap about that commercialised day..

So my mum makes the best polish pancakes with cream cheese it's so sweet and amazing, if you love pancakes you definitely must try making these:
Here comes an overload of cat pictures, I haven't seen Smudge in over a month okay..
After I took this picture she licked my forehead so that was cool...

I have to show you this, so pet owners out there do you ever wonder what your pet does when you aren't there? Well I caught smudge on our neighbours roof which I thought was funny.
So as I said earlier me and my friend went out for cocktails and chinese beforehand (we had to wait 40 minutes though it was ridiculous, that's when I wish had the balls to complain right away)

How cute is this York street:
I had a raspberry mojito and my friend had a passionfruit one, they were nice but so strong jeez I dunno how people do it, I just can't hack alcohol.

Hope you enjoy the rest of the week!
Talk next Sunday I promise,

Tips On Long Exposure Photography

Hey guys!

This week went really fast which makes me so happy because I have reading week next week which means no getting up at 8am for a while yess. I have loads of assignments due but at least I'll have a break from uni and chilling with family as I'm off home tomorrow.

Right after my doctors appointment because guess what..I managed to somehow get a swollen foot and I have no idea how so that's real cool. I've had to wait 2 weeks for this appointment so they better be able to help.

Okay so this is the path I always take from my garage to uni and I thought it looked cool how the sky was split with the colour (seeing the pretty sky in the morning is the only advantage of getting up early)
On Tuesday I met up with photosoc to take some cool long exposure shots (see it isn't a clickbait title) which was fun. Apart from the fact it was bloody freezing and even with gloves my hands were going numb..

Lets get to my photography tips:

  1. Make sure your shutter speed (how long the lens stays open) is set to at least 4 seconds
  2. Set your aperture (how wide the lens is) is set to around f8-f10
  3. Increase your ISO from 100-200 or more depending on how dark it is outside
  4. Preferably use a tripod to avoid camera shake (if not find something to rest your camera on)
  5. Go mad and start taking lots of shots, long exposure photography takes time and patience
So I hope any of that helps, I'm not even pretending to be a photography expert but they are just some of the tips I've learnt from photography a level and photo society at uni. Here are my favourite shots I took:
This last picture will seem very random but we started taking more abstract pictures which I thought was cool. The next picture below is also very random but we came to the York shambles and normally it's always busy so we took advantage to take a picture while it's quiet: (reminds me of some film scene I like the eerie vibe)
Afterwards I was frozen so I made myself a hot chocolate to warm myself up..yes I'm that extra I have heart shaped marshmallows:
On Wednesday all I have is a 9am lecture so me and my friend decided to go treat ourselves and go shopping (you know spend our student loans while it's still there) and we went to this cute cafe called Lucky Days. I got the most amazing pancakes, if you're ever visiting I would highly recommend.
I was waiting in monsoon dressing room area while my friend was trying on clothes and how cute was the room, sums up my aesthetic.
So me and my housemate have a watermelon obsession and when we saw this in tkmax we just had to get it for our soap:
Guys!! I ordered 3 stranger things posters from eBay for £6.50 as I got one free and I can't wait to show you but I'm waiting for my parents to help put them up. I also got a friends one which I'll show you when it's up.

Lastly here's my collection of cards from my mum, the first two are from first year when I was really homesick and the last one I got recently I love them all (ft my cute lights)
Okay so hope you have a good week and I'll speak to you all soon,
byeeeee!

Going Out Out At Uni

Hey! See I'm getting into posting on a Sunday it just feels right and normal.

So I dunno if you can remember but I said I was off out last Sunday night and I went to Revs (Revolution) in York and it was so good. They always play the best songs, love a good dance with friends just letting loose and going a bit crazy.

I mean aside from my anxiety stopping me from going to meet my friend at her house who said she was just having a few friends over but it was definitely more of a house party. I'm just not great in social situations like that like some people thrive off that whereas I thrive off small groups of people and love my own company (can you tell I'm a introvert)

In the end I went over to another friend's place and we ended up having the best night!

^Here's me by the pretty view of the river as Revs is right by it (maybe not ideal for all the drunks..) but flash was on so you can't actually see the view but we had good intentions at least (you can just make out the church in the background..)

One of the things I love about adulting (yep it is a word) is getting cute new homeware stuff, here's some new glasses and mugs my housemate got for us:
Ignore the paper underneath I really should've moved it but the one on the left says follow your dreams (ignore the cheesiness okay), the other have watermelons on and the last one says girl boss. It reminds me that I need to watch Girl Boss on Netflix, apparently it's good!?

Side note, I can't remember if I told you that we have a giant inflatable watermelon..just one of the necessities to student life. Here's me with my food and the watermelon in the background:
Right, moving on so my housemate ordered a moon lamp and it came recently and it's so cool it changes colours when you touch it (took us a while to figure that out oops), look how cool it is:
So if you've never visited York uni before you won't know but basically there's a constant comparison between this massive lecture hall that it's a spaceship and if you look down below, lets face it..it definitely looks like it could lift off any moment;)
Jokes aside I love the campus and the fact it's so centred around nature, it's definitely what keeps me sane when I'm stressed.

Now we're back to today and I always think the sunset is so pretty, I've definitely seen it more vibrant but still I love watching it appear and disappear now it's beginning to stay light for longer. BRING ON SUMMER 2018! Don't get me wrong I love winter but I'm just so ready for sun now.

So that's it for today, hope you've had a good week and next week goes alright!
Byeeeee,
Sophie
